Both the FieldTracker Graphite and EmeralD offer BAK4 prisms and fully multicoated optics in a tough, rubber armoured waterproof, nitrogen filled body. The EmeralD model also features Extra Low Dispersion ED Glass. Both models offer high performance and exceptional value for money...
I've been lucky enough to get my hands on the new Visionary FieldTrackers, both the Graphite and flagship EmeralD ED model. I have been testing the 8x42 for both binoculars.
Cosmetically, the binoculars look fantastic, very stylish with a combination of textured armoured rubber and metal body. The Graphite model has a grey/black finish and the EmeralD adopts a tasteful deep green colour. They look and feel expensive, far more than their price tag would suggest.
High build quality is also instantly noticeable as you first handle either binocular, with a smooth and solid motion the focus wheel is responsive and sensitive allowing very fine focus adjustment and the twist eyecups offer a steady resistance rather than feeling loose. Both bodies are completely waterproof and nitrogen filled to prevent fogging - so you can literally take these binoculars anywhere.
Due to the open bridge design, these binoculars feel more like a lightweight compact model, but still packing large bright objective lenses of 42mm. They comfortably fitted in to my walking coat pocket and I barely noticed I was carrying them.
Now on to the optics, both models impressively offer fully multi coated lenses and Naturephase coated prisms giving rich, vibrant colours and an extremely bright, sharp image. The EmeralD model has the extra bonus of extra low dispersion ED glass, producing an even brighter image with greater resolution. The EmeralDs really came in to their own in low light situations, delivering detailed images even as dusk was approaching.
I own a range of different binoculars - but I found myself reaching for the FieldTrackers every time I went out. The combination of a quality, comfortable and compact design with large 42mm bright optics make them the perfect choice.
There is a real buzz surrounding these new FieldTrackers in the optics trade, everyone who handles them is impressed. They are going to be very popular - both models really are great value for money, considering the quality of the finished product.
The Graphite will retail at around £130 for the 8x42 and £140 for the 10x42, whilst the EmeralD ED will be priced at around £290 for the 8x42 and £300 for the 10x42. If you are looking for a quality optic without the heavy price tag - try the FieldTrackers - you really need to handle and look through them to appreciate these binoculars.
