The GXR is a full photographic system with a wide range of accessories avaialble from wide angle and tele conversion lenses through to external flash units and plug in electronic viewfinders.

Some of these system accessories are especially useful to the digiscoper. This page explains in more detail about each useful digiscoping component.

Ricoh HA-3
Designed to accept filters and adapters with a 43mm thread.

The HA-3 adapter clips over the zoom lens of the S10 lens module allowing the full operation of the external zoom lens within the HA-3 housing. This means you can connect the camera via a 43mm stepping ring to your spotting scope adapter and still operate the zoom lens fully. This is a fantastic feature, the cameras lens can be zoomed to eliminate any vignetting whilst attached to the scope. The HA-3, in effect, gives the GXR S10 an internal zoom lens.

Ricoh CA-1

Hands free operation is vital when digiscoping to limit camera shake. The Ricoh CA-1 electronic shutter release cable plugs in to the USB socket of the GXR and can be used to obtain focus lock and shutter release operation.


Ricoh VF-2
This is the electronic viewfinder especially for the GXR, with 920,000 dots equivalent, the field of view is 100%. It attaches to the hot shoe that is located above the lens.e

Another useful accessory the GXR has to offer is the VF-2 electronic viewfinder which can be plugged in to the camera. Even with a large bright 3" LCD screen, in certain lighting conditions, a viewfinder will offer the clearest option. Simply alternate between viewfinder and LCD screen via the pressing of a button. The angle of the VF-2 is also adjustable for optimum eye position.

It's worth remembering that this is a new, evolving system - with more lens modules and accessories curently under development, who know's what is round the corner - possibly a dedicated digiscoping module!
